Yacht racing should be for everyone, and getting the right training is important. We can help you understand what’s happening on board a race yacht, to become an essential member of the crew, and to feel confident hopping on board race yachts in the future.

You can take part in race training courses to build your skills and confidence. We offer a variety of race training programmes from two to five days, from an introduction to yacht racing to advance yacht racing.

If you are part of a crew already you can bring your team for a session to improve performance and skill building training.

Introduction to Racing

No experience required

Duration 2 days

The introduction to yacht racing is aimed at sailors who have never raced before or who may have done the odd corporate race day. The course subjects include: setting up the yacht, going through crew roles, practicing spinnaker sets, drops and gybing, mark rounding and efficient sailing.

At the end of the course, you will have developed the skills required to compete in an inshore race.

Intermediate Race Training

Experience required – you should be racing to intro level, or at least have a few races under your belt.

Duration 3 to 4 days (Midweek or Weekends)

Fine-tune your racing technique for both inshore and offshore events. The course includes: building on basic skills, with emphasis on trim, tactics, more complex manoeuvres, communication and teamwork.

At the end of the course you will have developed skills to compete in events such as Winter Series, Spring Series or RORC championships.

Advance Race Training

Experience required - Regularly race as a crew member or club sailor

Duration 5 days (practical and theory based course)

Coaching both in the class room and on the water, the course includes: Boat and crew preparation, mark rounding, windward and downwind leg and debriefing.
